Lawson Wrestling Team is your 2024 District Wrestling Champion! The Lightning defeated Martin Luther King Jr. High School 69-6 by winning twelve out of thirteen matches.

“After winning our district as a team, we are right back in the wrestling room working hard to get individuals qualified for the state tournament. Last year we had an impressive six sectional qualifiers, and four state qualifiers, but we’re looking to surpass those numbers this year!” Coach Roberto Maldonado said.

The Lightning are preparing to attend the regional tournament on the road to the state championships.

“I’m very excited to face this challenge on the road to state, and I can’t wait to put on a show,” Senior Cam Shields said.

The Wrestling team is very talented this year and they have continued to prove that through their wins. They work hard during practice to develop their strength and flexibility through conditioning exercises.

“This is the best overall team we’ve had in years, and there’s no doubt in my mind that we can make it happen,” Coach Roberto Maldonado said.

The Lighting travel to Montgomery Central High School this weekend where they will compete in the regional tournament, with the top 6 in each weight class advancing to the sectional tournament.
