For those planning on going to college, there is a crucial thing that all people should consider: cost. Depending on where somebody decides to go or what field to be in, they should be aware of how much it will cost to be in that field.

While there are many options to overcome this, an easy way is through scholarships. Scholarships are tools that students can use to gain easy funds to pay off different types of college bills such as student loans or as simple as housing. Scholarships can be earned all throughout one’s high school career but are especially emphasized junior and senior year.

There are many different types of types of scholarships, but they can typically fall into categories of being academic based, sport based, extra-curricular based, student-specific scholarships, and need based scholarships.* These categories help students easily recognize what may be best fit for them to look through and apply for.

The money that can be earned varies greatly from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on what the scholarship is for and what it is meant to be used for. Despite this, it is important to try to apply for as much as you can. This money is able to stack up over time so accepting more helps in gaining a lot of money over time.

From searching, scholarships typically need a multitude of things to achieve. While some opportunities may only need some information (aka the infamous “No essay scholarships”) many do need essays or give essay like questions in order to apply or have specific requirements like a high enough unweighted Grade Point Average (GPA), specific skill sets, and teacher references. Completing these requirements may take up a lot of time and energy, however applying for these gives a very high chance of earning a lot of money in the long run.

For those who are learning how to earn scholarships now, it is not a problem because both undergraduates and graduates can apply during college. These opportunities still available past graduation in the case of someone needing more to help support themselves and the future ahead of them.

All in all, scholarships are easy to earn and receive but needs one’s time and patience. Where to start finding and signing up for scholarships depends on the person, but some of the more popular ones include Bold.org, Scholarships360.org, or Niche.com**. In the end, it always depends on whatever you think is best for you for you to do.
