Student Parking: Hillwood vs. Lawson

Some great news for the future drivers at Lawson High School.

Current Hillwood students can expect major changes for parking at Lawson High School.

During the visit to Lawson High School, the tour group was able to observe both the school building and grounds. The location of the new school is not on a flat surface, but on a sloped hill, which means there will be a ground-level entrance on each of the three stories.

“It’s a nicer and smoothly paved with a less janky parking situation,” junior Zoya Blythe said.

At Lawson, there will be about 300 to 500 parking spots available for students behind the cafeteria and near the gym. Students will still have to purchase the parking pass for the new school. Student parking spots will be numbered so that each individual has a specific parking space.

“It is still up for debate if the parking at the James Lawson school will include both teachers and students. There will be three main parking lots available,” Dr. Sheaffer said.

With the current difficulty in finding parking at our current location, students expressed their struggles to find parking in the back of the current location.

“They are hollowing out the school,” Mrs. Clarke said, as she described how students feel as if they need to race on out to beat the traffic.

Future Lawson High School students will be encouraged to get their permits early in the 23-24 school year.
