James Lawson High School has recently hosted its first cluster night, an opportunity for a high school to invite middle school students to visit their zoned high school. Lawson invited the cluster middle schools, Bellevue Middle School and H.G. Hill Middle School, to send their basketball players to watch The Lightning play on February 9th.
“Having all of our feeder schools come to see this wonderful building we have and let them see what it’s like and how impactful that can be. We want to show them what they should be excited about as they move forward,” Girl’s Basketball Coach Brad Bishop said.
The Lightning Girls Basketball Team celebrated a 55-49 win against Hume Fogg High School.
Cluster night has been a tradition for every high school towards the end of basketball season. The night consisted of a close-up experience with the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, a shoot-off game for either school to win a pizza party, and concluded with senior night for winter sports athletes.
“Cluster night is that final piece where we show off our school to middle school students to let them make sure that Lawson is the place they want to be,” Bishop said.
